SHIFT is out on DVD via Amazon.com and Filmbaby! It includes: Making Of the Music Featurette; Deleted & Extended Scenes; Music Videos; Scene Selections; Trailer; Outtakes; Behind the Scenes Production Stills; Auditions; Alternate Ending(s). Get yours today at Amazon or Filmbaby!

I'm so glad that it's finally out on DVD format for those who could not see it in their part of the country. The wait was worth it in terms of packing content onto the disc.

It includes: Making Of the Music Featurette; Deleted & Extended Scenes; A Music Video; Scene Selections; Trailer; Outtakes; and Behind the Scenes Production Stills.

And for those in Japan, it even includes JAPANESE SUBTITLES! Holy crap! And for the hearing impaired, English subtitles are also available too.

The movie was encoded by James Moore at Sonic Solutions, who is a big wig of the DVD world (and a really nice guy), and the disc is a true manufactured disc, unlike cheap DVD-Rs that can scratch easily. It's in beautiful 16x9 widescreen format too!

It's supposed to be programmed well, so I hope to see you there! If you haven't seen SHIFT in the theater, here's your last chance! I'd love to see you there.

SHIFT is the winner of the Jaman New Asia Film Contest! !

--------------------------------------
The Academy of Jaman has selected SHIFT as the winner of the New Asia Film Contest! It is being distributed online now via Jaman!

Jaman says: "I found this film really meditative. An out-of-work actor takes a night job in a factory to earn some extra money, but the people he finds in the factory aren't like him. They resent his financial status (he seems to be from a well-off family) and some weird racism creeps in around the edges of their interactions with him."

Here it is!

If people register now, they’ll be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to the Toronto Film Festival!

SHIFT wins awards at NYU's First Run Film Festival

--------------------------------------
Congratulations to AL THOMPSON (who plays Louis in SHIFT) for winning the "Best Actor" Award at NYU's First Run Film Festival. As the sole recipient of the award in the entire acting category, it's something to be proud of.

SHIFT was awarded the "Adam Balsano Award For Video With Social Significance." All of this kindness was a surprise for a film that's screening in abridged format! We weren't expecting anything, but are very happy with the results. Al Thompson deserves it big time.

SHIFT [abridged version] to screen at NYU's First Run Film Festival

--------------------------------------
SHIFT will finally be screening at NYU as part of their annual First Run Film Festival on April 14-15 (Saturday and Sunday). Information is posted for both screenings at the screenings page. It is the abridged 30 minute cut, which basically just ends the film 6 minutes early. Of course we all prefer the 36 minute cut, but NYU has a policy of only allowing 30 minute time limits. So for anyone interested in seeing the first 30 minutes in New York, the chance has arrived!

Another film which will be playing in abridged form is BRUNO, which is directed by the editor of SHIFT, Sam Goetz. It was also shot by Jonathan Yi, who made SHIFT. The full cut of BRUNO is also 36 minutes long, which proves that 36 minutes is the ideal running length for any film edited by Sam Goetz.

The full-length cut of SHIFT will be playing in Ohio at the Athens International Film and Video Festival, so keep an eye out for more information coming soon. The festival takes place from April 27 to May 3.

Happy New Year! New things for 2007!

--------------------------------------
The year 2006 comes to a close tonight, and it was a great year for SHIFT! 2007 will hopefully be just as good, as it will be the final leg of the journey for this film!

We were invited to screen in San Francisco in March for the 2007 San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (March 15-25, 2007). It's a great festival and it's an honor to be selected. More details will be posted in the screenings section of this website as they become available.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to continually visit this website, and a very big thank you to everyone who came out to the film festivals to see the film. It was truly the most fun I've had in a while, and it made this year a fantastic one. I'm truly grateful for the friends that were made this year and for the continued support of those who stuck with it from day one. So please come back to this website soon. Have a happy new year!

SHIFT just received top honors at Dances With Films, the Los Angeles film festival where we had our great debut! The premiere was such a great and unforgettable experience, filled with friends of past and present and this honor really makes it all the more amazing! Special thanks to Leslee Scallon and Michael Trent for making this all possible! Our award was accepted by longtime friend and fellow NYU filmmaker Len Aslanian. Thanks go out to him for taking the time to represent us at the reception!

The seven-inch vinyl soundtrack is currently at the mastering house and is getting ready to be pressed! More screenings are in the works. Posters are available now! So remember to buy tickets to SHIFT, in the Short Competition on Sunday, July 23. See you there!

Last night we finished color correcting the movie at Company 3, New York and things look great! The sound mix is sounding great as well! We're very excited to see things finally wrapping up!

World Premiere in Los Angeles, California!

--------------------------------------
We're rushing to finish the film's sound mix in time for its World Premiere next month! Dances With Films in Santa Monica, CA will be the first to screen SHIFT to an audience, and the screening will take place on Sunday, July 23! We're very excited. So excited, in fact, that many people will be traveling long distances to see the first audience reactions. We hope to see some of you there!

Theatrical posters designed by Andy Dixon / The Chemistry Designs are currently off at the pressing plant! More information will follow on how to obtain your own copy/copies of this awesome piece of artwork.

In addition, Second Rate Records, Jonathan Yi's long-running independent record label, will be back in action in 2006 after being dormant for a few years. The first release scheduled is a 7" vinyl soundtrack for SHIFT! Why vinyl? Because with everything about SHIFT's production being digital and futuristic, we decided that it would be most appropriate to honor our music with this amazing 45rpm format. Information will come soon regarding obtaining copies of this release.

So after much work on behalf of everyone working on SHIFT, things are looking good! We'll see you next month!

05.27.06
So much happening!

--------------------------------------
The post-production team of SHIFT has been really busy lately. Lance Lee flew out to New York a few weeks ago to record our original score for the film, performing with cellist/bassist Peter Yoon and drummer Alexander Perrelli. The music will be released on Second Rate Records when the film begins screenings at festivals. Speaking of which, festival submissions have officially begun! Meanwhile, sound design and sound mixing are in progress with Morgwn Jones operating all the controls. Things are sounding better every day. Morgwn also was the recording engineer behind all of our original score and handled all sound duties on set! Things are shaping up and coming together! We're looking forward to showing everyone what came out of this long, difficult journey. We hope you'll enjoy it! Wish us luck!

03.31.06
Test screenings in progress!

--------------------------------------
SHIFT is now reaching test audiences every weekend until festival submissions begin in a little over a month. We are excited to see where they might lead us as we continue to also compose music for the score and prepare for release. Wish us luck as we attempt to complete this long-running project in the best way we possibly can.

02.23.06
First teaser trailer is up!

--------------------------------------
That's right! If you head on over to the newly created trailers section, you will see our very first teaser trailer available for download in Quicktime 7 format! Other alternate formats are and will be available, but it's highly recommended that you view these in Quicktime 7.

Thanks so much for your patience. The film is coming along very nicely and we'd love to hear some feedback as to what you think of the trailer. Thanks for your continued interest!

02.21.06
Trailer is coming in a few days!

--------------------------------------
We finally cut together a trailer (actually tried cutting 7 versions so far), and we finally have one of them (a teaser) picture locked for you! Right now it's going through a sound mix and will be ready on the web in a few days.

Other than that, this past weekend has been a tremendous one for editing the actual film, which we are much more excited about than the trailer. Currently clocking in at 45 minutes! Oh man. It's long! But we're still pumped!

01.29.06
Post-Production is in action!

--------------------------------------
It's been quite a while since the last update! We recently (as of last week) finally closed a legal dispute that this production was under for quite some time, and we wanted to get that closed before writing another update. But we're pleased to let you know that SHIFT is coming along very nicely!

We recently got our own editing system up and running to complete this project and we are in the midst of composing a full musical score. A rough assembly was sent to our composers a few weeks ago, and they should be sending us some new material later today. The current assembly is at approximately 40 minutes (without credits) and we are aiming to have it come in under 30 minutes, which will be quite the challenge!

2006 is now here, and this will be the year when SHIFT will make its festival rounds! So thank you for your continued interest and hopefully a trailer will come soon!

10.25.05
Principal Photography is wrapped!

--------------------------------------
It's been a long time coming. It's been over a year to be exact, since we began the process of making SHIFT into a film. Now, we can finally say that we did it. The longest and most daunting portion of the film has been shot, and though it was very challenging during the several months of pre-production, we were finally able to see our hard work pay off.

Our ensemble cast was fantastic, and we were well taken care of in many ways. Food was delicious and plentiful, transportation was smooth, and the minor problems that came up day to day were dealt with swiftly. The only problems that were upsetting to the production included a partial equipment failure towards the end of the shoot (that was completely out of anyone's hands), and the inability to shoot a shot due to weather and other restrictions. Besides those few unavoidable things, everyone did well and had a great time. There were so many things to be accounted for that we are incredibly grateful that this went off as smoothly as it did with our scaled down crew. We couldn't have asked for much better, and we are extremely happy with the results.

This portion of the project couldn't have come to fruition at all without the help of Roland Froebel at Mail Terminal Services, who allowed us to shoot in his facility. He, Rocky Sweeney, and the entire MTS staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating, and MTS even donated our location fee to the Katrina Hurricane Relief Fund and a company breakfast. We're glad to have met all of them. Some workers of MTS might even make their way into the film! And the financial support of some last minute donations were the very reason this shoot could even happen in the first place. Our supporters have made this film possible, and for this, I can't thank you enough!

Now the long road of post-production looms around the corner, and we are getting prepared to jump right into it. But after the series of shoots we've completed, there are still many debts to be paid before we can fully begin post! So if you are someone who is interested in donating to our cause, please visit our fundraising page and find out more about how you can help us finish this film! This film is truly made possible by the kindness of others, and it is my sincere hope that people will find it worthwhile.

Thanks for sticking around for all the good news. I hope that I will be reporting more of it in the future. Take care and thanks for your interest!

9.03.05
San Francisco is wrapped!

--------------------------------------
A few days ago, our crew came back from cold and windy (but beautiful) San Francisco, where we completed the second pickup shoot for SHIFT! For those interested, quick and dirty production stills from the shoot can be seen immediately here. Things went incredibly well on the west coast and things are looking better than ever. While we were there, The Palo Alto Weekly stopped by the set on day one. Our little movie made the front cover! You can read the whole story here.

Now we're gearing up for our big principal photography portion with our ensemble cast, which will be completed in Brooklyn. There's a lot to be done in a short amount of time, including fundraising, where we are hoping to raise an additional $15,000 to get everything in the can. We are still right on budget, as planned, but are still in need of a few more donations to make it to our initial goal. If you're interested in helping this project make it to completion, you can check out our fundraising page to find out about tax-deductible donations to our cause. Without the support of people like you, this movie would not be able to exist.

Speaking of which, another article about our winning grand prize in the Panasonic Digital Filmmaker's Grant competition can be read at this link. Endless thank to Jan Crittenden of Panasonic for helping us complete the film.

Now we're on our way in final preparations, rehearsals, and production design before hopefully making the seamless transition into post-production! Wish us luck and thanks for your interest!

7.08.05
We're on our way to San Francisco!

--------------------------------------
Things are getting busy as we tie up loose ends before heading out west for our August pickup shoot! After considering over 300 females for the role of MELANIE, we have finally found our actress in Allyn Rachel, who will be coming with us to the west coast alongside our lead actor, Aldous Davidson, who plays ALEX. We have not compromised in the least in regards to casting, and we are happy to report that we couldn't be happier with our choices. We have already wrapped shooting with Russ Russo, Matt Saccullo and Geoffrey Golia and can't wait to begin working with our incredible ensemble cast, which includes Jarett Gonzalez, Zhao Mao (an established actor and filmmaker himself), Paul Sum, Nathaniel Geng, and more to be confirmed at a later date pending schedule coordination.

Equipment, accommodations, insurance and locations in San Francisco are all coming into place as I type, but if you're in the Bay Area and are interested in lending a helping hand, send us an email and we'll be in touch! We'll be back on August 31 for intensive rehearsals and planning for our big shoot this Fall! Wish us luck!

6.11.05
First pickup shoot wrapped!

--------------------------------------
The first scene to be shot for the production of SHIFT was completed over June 09-10 and went incredibly smoothly! It went so smoothly, in fact, that we ended six hours earlier than scheduled! Shooting for this "XBOX Commercial scene" took place at Todman Soundstage in Manhattan, and special camera props were provided by Jan Crittenden Livingston at Panasonic. Cameras were provided by Abel Cine Tech while sound was furnished by Gotham Sound. This was our first plunge into principle photography, and we couldn't be happier about how things went! A big thank you goes out to all the supporters of the project thus far.

The next step is to move the production to the San Francisco Bay Area, where we will shoot a few more pickups in late August before we have our big principle photography portion in Brooklyn that is set to begin in October. Casting will also continue again at full force immediately. Our hope is that things will continue to go well and that our cast and crew will remain at the top quality that we've seen so far.

And if this is your first visit to the website, please visit our fundraising page for more information about tax deductible donations! No amount is too little as this production is only possible through the support of people like you! Thanks again to all the supporters thus far who are making this script into reality! Thanks for visiting the website and we hope to hear from you soon!

SHIFT wins production grant!

--------------------------------------
The script and production team for SHIFT was recently awarded Grand Prize in the SDX900/Panasonic Digital Filmmaker's Grant, which is sponsored by Panasonic (of course), Apple, and Abel Cine Tech! The Grand Prize package is for production and post-production and is valued at over $17,000! Jonathan received the announcement this Wednesday at Abel Cine Tech (New York) during a Panasonic Convention, which unveiled many new cinematography and post-production technologies for the coming future. It was the first in a string of exciting news that will hopefully continue to come to you once everything is solidified.

We are just about one month away from the first day of principle photography, and fundraising and everything else continues! We are hoping to solidify our casting situation in the next few weeks and begin rehearsals immediately. Several roles have now been cast and once it's all set, we will introduce you to our cast members!

As always, feel free to browse the site. New things are added regularly so I hope it continues to keep people up to date. Until next time!

Casting continues, Fundraising continues, as does everything else!

--------------------------------------
The first two rounds of first casting calls have been very fruitful! We have not contacted anyone for callbacks just yet, but we definitely will be shortly. If anyone out there is still interested in sending their resumes or headshots, please do so by emailing casting@shiftcinema.com! There's a lot of casting to do and we want to get the best people possible. That may be you! So apply even if you are a non-actor and look at the characters page and see if you know anyone who might be good for any roles. We want to find the unconventional and we're willing to go by any unconventional means!

Fundraising continues and we still have a ways to go. A big thanks to those who were the first to donate, both on the personal and corporate level! Every little bit helps make this film a reality and your generosity is deeply appreciated! Without support from people like you, this project would not be possible. If anyone out there would like to know more about how they could help this production, please visit our fundraising page for more information about tax deductible donations! No amount is too little because everything little thing goes a long way!

The website has been updated with a more complete crew list. Locations are being scouted and locked and we're moving at a very productive pace. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the site!
